irresistible
There’s really no other word to describe this hunk of manliness:
His head gear is reminiscent of the delicious balaclava helmet, yet so much more modern, and he wears it with a casual, rugged insouciance that makes it hard to look away.
Note that the garment’s small size, combined with the use of a chunky yarn and garter stitch, make it the ideal project for a novice knitter.
I found him on Flickr where Flint Knits has posted gems from her large collection of vintage patterns. Check out selections from the 1940s-50s, 1960s, and the 1980s – a decade all too fresh in my mind.

Well that’s great…He’s going to have toasty ears, but I’m a bit worried he might get a ‘top of head cold’!

Hilarious! It reminds me of a belted maxi pad. Why hide such a garment on the*inside*?

Yeah, this one is a favorite. Whenever I feel like knitting shawls or socks isn’t all that useful, I can go back to this book and remind myself exactly what sorts of abominations happen when we ground our knitting in what’s “useful.” (Shudder.) Thanks for the links!

it reminds me of a wrestling helmet! That strap across the top is really classic!
How about wearing this OVER the balaclava, since the balaclava covers everything but the ears?

Julia & Eliza - The top of the head cold looks like a real possibility, although I think that together with the balaclava you really can have head gear for all seasons.
Katy - your disturbing thought also crossed my mind.
Jude - I know what you mean. Perhaps the post should have been titled “speechless”.
Pamela - thanks for such excellent entertainment!

Look again at the model…I think he knows how silly he looks with a near jock strap thingie on his head and he can’t believe he’s said OK to being photographed wearing it!!!

It’s true, he kind of looks like he’s about to lurch out of the frame, running for dear life.
