Have M save his haircuts in a bag... and sprinkle it around the perimeter of your garden in ever expanding areas.
The deer in Texas were warned off by the smell of people unless the were veeeeeery hungry.

This is not a perfect solution, but used with the others it will certainly help.

The few small gentleman farmer vegetable gardens that I have seen succeed in the Catskills with lots of wildlife living in the woods near by have 8 foot high fences around them....which don't seem to keep the bears out.

Did I tell you I saw a large black bear with a brown nose a mile from my house?? Thank God I was in the car. I just stopped to wait and let him pass. He was a big one!!

I don't recommend fencing with deer.

They're quick on their feet and don't use safety foils.

We have groundhogs, or woodchucks if you will. They adore our yard. We've unwittingly created their ideal habitat...lots of long grass, piles of wood and sticks, and idealistic homeowners who still plant luscious kale and lettuce EVERY YEAR! Yep, every year. But this year we've committed ourselves to onions and garlic only. Every year...
oh, and, I happen to think the white wisp of fur just above the groundhog's nose is the cutest...

The cats are doing some sort of catch and release hunting. All the excitement without the gore.

Good lord - rabbits! I may have to open a petting zoo.

And I'm in town too, Barb. There's a street light! They care not. Or it could be they're just too desperate and hungry and avoiding the hunters on the mountain.
